HOUGHTON DRAMA DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT ‘HARVEY’
HOUGHTON, N.Y.
– Houghton College will perform the classic play, “Harvey,” at 7:30 p.m. on
Thursday, Nov. 4, Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6 at Houghton Academy’s
Rosemary Tysinger Auditorium. There will also be a Saturday matinee at 1:30
p.m.
“Harvey,” by Mary Chase, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945 and served as the basis
for the 1950 film starring Jimmy Stewart. From Broadway to London theatres,
“Harvey” remains in constant production sixty years after its debut on Nov.1,
1944.
“Harvey” tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a good-natured, mild-mannered
eccentric fellow with one problematic character trait
– his best friend is an invisible six-foot tall rabbit. Elwood’s
sister and her
daughter try to have Elwood committed to the local sanitarium, where the
behavior of the prominent psychologist and his staff raise the age-old question
of who is more dangerous to society: the easy-going dreamer with a vivid
imagination or the people who want him to conform to the accepted version of
reality.
Under the
direction of Bruce Brenneman, “Harvey” features the following Houghton College
students: Hilary Young of Houghton, N.Y.; Seanna Faley of Mount Vernon, Wash.;
Tim Gunning of Battle Creek Mich.; Alicia Berbenick of Selden, N.Y.; Jenny
Rainbolt of Clarks, Neb.; Kiera Tiefenbach of Saskatchewan, Canada; Joe Hall of
Friendship, N.Y.; Jesse Orton of Clinton, N.Y.; Ethan Stowell of Bemus Point,
N.Y.; Becky Farley of Burt, N.Y.; Andrew Gaerte of Houghton, N.Y.; and Adam
Sukhia of Orchard Park, N.Y.
Tickets are $4 each and can be reserved by calling 585.567.9461.
