HOUGHTON STUDENTS PROVIDE TURKEYS FOR LOCAL FAMILIES

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton college students raised $2,057.50 to help provide Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need in Allegany County.

The money raised was used to purchase 80 tickets for Turkeys from the Fillmore Jubilee that were distributed to Allegany County residents. Randy Ellis, manager of the Jubilee, provided the turkeys at cost.  Students have now begun raising money for a Christmas fund to buy gifts for area children. Additional money not used to purchase turkeys will be added to the Christmas fund.

As an added incentive to give this year, John Brittain, dean of the chapel, agreed to dress up in a turkey costume should the students reach their goal of raising $1,200. When the students surpassed their goal, Brittain sported his turkey suit.

The amount donated by Houghton students for the turkey fund has tripled in the last three years.
