HOUGHTON
COLLEGE OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton College students will
help area residents prepare their income tax returns free of charge.
Co-sponsored by the IRS as
part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and the Houghton
College Business Department, this service is open to the general public.
This free service is available from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Monday and
Wednesday beginning on February 7 and ending April 13.
The program, now in its 12th
year, gives accounting and business students, who have taken the Federal Income
Taxation Course, the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and experience to
the real world. Students are also available to answer questions, check forms,
and teach community members how to prepare their own tax forms.
Appointments are necessary
and can be scheduled by contacting Kristen Miller at 585.567.9500 ext. 9722 or
by email at
kristen.miller@houghton.edu.
