ORTLIP ART GALLERY FEATURES WORK BY LOCAL ARTIST
HOUGHTON, N.Y.
— Houghton College’s Ortlip Art Gallery features artwork by local artist Bitsy
Mayhle, of Houghton, N.Y., until Aug. 1.
Mayhle’s work
received the 2005 “Best of Show” award from the Southern Tier Biennial, the
2004 “Athena Award” from the Athena Society, Toledo, Ohio, the 2004 “Toledo
Potter’s Guild Award” from the Toledo Area Artist 86th Annual
Exhibition at the Toledo Museum of Art, and the 2004 “Outstanding Graduating
Senior” award from the art department at The University of Toledo.
In her artwork,
Mayhle says she “invites the viewer for a more intimate look at this subject,
providing a means of exodus from the Crayola-mindset and an entrance into the
realm of saturation, transparency, nuance and transition.”
Exhibits of her
work include representation at the Colored Pencil Society of America 11th
Annual International Exhibition at the City of Brea Gallery in Los Angeles,
Calif., the Annex Gallery of the Glass Crafts Building at The University of
Toledo, the Toledo Area Artists 86th Annual Exhibition at the Toledo
Museum of Art, and the TW Wood Gallery and Arts Center at the Vermont College
Union Institute and University.
Mayhle holds a
bachelor’s from The University of Toledo.
