HOUGHTON
COLLEGE SETS CHRISTIAN LIFE EMPHASIS WEEK
HOUGHTON, N.Y.
— Founder and President of SpiritVenture Ministries Leonard Sweet will speak
during Houghton College’s Christian Life Emphasis Week (CLEW), Sept. 4-7.
Sweet
is the E. Stanly Jones professor of evangelism at Drew University and a
visiting distinguished professor at George Fox University. He has authored
more than 100 articles, over 600 published sermons and dozens of books. In
2000 his book “Postmodern Pilgrims” became the first religion e-book on
Amazon.com.
Sweet served on
the council of the American Society of Church History and as an associate
editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion. Currently he holds
leadership positions in the United Methodist Church and works as a consultant
to many of America’s denominational leaders and agencies. He is a frequent
speaker at conferences both in the U.S. and around the world.
Sweet holds a
bachelor’s from the University of Richmond, a master’s from Colgate Rochester
Divinity School and a doctorate from the University of Rochester.
CLEW is a time
of strengthening and renewal as Houghton College’s student body, faculty,
staff and administration are drawn back to the purpose of Houghton College:
to equip students to lead and labor as scholar-servants in a changing world.
CLEW begins on
Sunday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. with a service at the Houghton Wesleyan Church.
On Monday and Tuesday services are held at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Wesley
Chapel on the Houghton College campus. CLEW concludes with a service on
Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at Wesley Chapel.
