CHAMBERLAIN HONORED BY BUFFALO MAYOR
HOUGHTON, N.Y.
— Houghton College President Daniel R. Chamberlain was recently named a
Citizen of Distinction by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown at a “thank you”
retirement reception held in Chamberlain’s honor at the King Urban Life
Center in Buffalo.

“Dr. Chamberlain,
we would like to thank you, for your self-sacrificing service of 30 years to
Houghton College,” said Brown. “You have overseen significant challenges to
the college’s physical plant and led the reform of the integrative studies,
which serves as the core of the liberal arts education that has become
Houghton’s academic trademark.”
City of Buffalo
Councilmember Antoine Thompson read a proclamation on behalf of the common
council of the city of Buffalo that recognized Chamberlain as ”instrumental
in the creation of the King Urban Life Center and launching the Houghton
College Pastoral and Church Ministries Program in Buffalo.”
The reception
also included comments from Betty Stone, board president of the King Urban
Life Center who presented Chamberlain with a crystal trophy, remarks by Dr.
Robert Baines, Robert Kresse and Rev. Karl Eastlack.
Chamberlain
closed the evening expressing his gratitude for the many people involved in
establishing the King Urban Life Center. He concluded that “As people work
together, things that seem impossible become reality.” Chamberlain concludes
30-year tenure as Houghton College’s president on May 31.
