CHAMBERLAIN HONORED BY BUFFALO MAYOR

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton College President Daniel R. Chamberlain was recently named a Citizen of Distinction by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown at a “thank you” retirement reception held in Chamberlain’s honor at the King Urban Life Center in Buffalo.

“Dr. Chamberlain, we would like to thank you, for your self-sacrificing service of 30 years to Houghton College,” said Brown. “You have overseen significant challenges to the college’s physical plant and led the reform of the integrative studies, which serves as the core of the liberal arts education that has become Houghton’s academic trademark.”

City of Buffalo Councilmember Antoine Thompson read a proclamation on behalf of the common council of the city of Buffalo that recognized Chamberlain as ”instrumental in the creation of the King Urban Life Center and launching the Houghton College Pastoral and Church Ministries Program in Buffalo.”

The reception also included comments from Betty Stone, board president of the King Urban Life Center who presented Chamberlain with a crystal trophy, remarks by Dr. Robert Baines, Robert Kresse and Rev. Karl Eastlack.

Chamberlain closed the evening expressing his gratitude for the many people involved in establishing the King Urban Life Center. He concluded that “As people work together, things that seem impossible become reality.” Chamberlain concludes 30-year tenure as Houghton College’s president on May 31.
