PROFESSOR EMERITUS MARJORIE O. STOCKIN PASSES AWAY

Former Houghton College Professor Emeritus Marjorie (Ortlip) Stockin passed away on Sunday, August 13 in the Waters of Houghton Nursing Home. She was 92.

Stockin was an art professor at Houghton from 1939-1959 and from 1963 to 1978. Stockin and her sister, Aileen Shea, initiated the art department in the 1930's and helped to establish the art major at Houghton College. The entire Ortlip family received recognition as the first family of visual arts at Houghton and were honored by the dedication of the Ortlip Art Gallery in 1999.

Visitation will be at the the Houghton Wesleyan Church Community Room on Saturday, August 19, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Sunday, August 20, visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the church. The Rev. Wesley Oden and The Rev. Todd Leach will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Houghton.

The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Houghton College art department.
