NEW ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINNING AT HOUGHTON COLLEGE

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton College welcomes new and returning students to its campus this weekend.

While classes begin on Monday, new students start the school year with the events of fall orientation on Friday. “Orientation leaders are standing by, ready to welcome first-year and transfer students to Houghton College this fall," said Director of New Student Programs Nancy Murphy. "In addition to moving in, taking care of important business, and celebrating this new beginning of their time at Houghton, highlights of this year's orientation program include an opportunity to meet President Shirley Mullen at Sunday's new student worship service.”

After moving into their residence halls on Friday, students and their parents attend the annual Dedication Service which introduces them to the core of the Houghton experience: the integration of learning with faith development. The service is followed by a reception, pizza party, karaoke, concert, movie and a bonfire.

Saturday new students learn about the college’s First-Year Introduction (FYI) program and participate in the annual Houghton Outrageous Outdoor Frenzy (HOOF), an event designed for students to interact with their new peers but also with their upper-class student leader and their faculty/staff mentor in an informal setting.
