CAMPAIGN CELEBRATION FOCUSES ON BRIGHT HOPE FOR TOMORROW

HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Houghton College celebrated the successful conclusion of The Campaign for the Christian Liberal Arts at Houghton College during the college’s homecoming weekend.

A special celebration, “Strength for Today, Bright Hope for Tomorrow,” featured faculty, staff and donors who spoke of how the campaign had influenced their lives. Keisha Shaut, a junior at Houghton, spoke on the Paine Science Center renovations. "The ability to work on collaborative research at Houghton College has made a vast impact on my life. Research has taught me academically, allowing me to utilize techniques in the lab that I have learned in the classroom. This opportunity has given me experience that I will need as I go on to graduate school and the work place. It has taught me to have patience with my experiments and perseverance with the assignments that I am given."

The program also included remarks from campaign chairs Lyn Barnett and David Blanchard, Houghton’s Board of Trustees Chairman Karl Eastlack, former President Daniel Chamberlain and President Shirley Mullen.

The campaign ended on June 30, 2006 with a total of all gifts received during the seven-year effort of $57.2 million. This amount included $16.4 million for operating support through The Houghton Fund, $37.6 million for the college’s endowment and $3.2 million for capital projects.
