HOUGHTON COLLEGE 2007 SYMPHONIC WINDS TOUR

HOUGHTON, N.Y. —The Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College announces the 2007 Symphonic Winds Tour from Feb. 23 to March 2.

Under the direction of Gary Stith, the Houghton College Symphonic Winds is a 60-member wind ensemble which seeks to expose its students and its audiences to the highest quality music written for wind and percussion instruments.

In 2002, the Symphonic Winds initiated a composer commissioning program with the goal of commissioning and premiering one new work for wind ensemble/wind band each year. Composers involved in this project have included Stephen Shewan, Mark Hijleh, Russell Peterson and Lowell Liebermann.

The 2007 tour program includes “Liberty Fanfare” by John Williams, “Variations on ‘America’” by Charles Ives/Schuman, “Americans We March” by Henry Fillmore/Fennell, “Canzona” by Peter Mennin, “Sacred Suite” by Alfred Reed, “On an American Spiritual” by David Holsinger and “Suite for Marice” by Stephen Shewan (commissioned and premiered by the Houghton College Symphonic Winds).
