HOUGHTON DRAMA DEPARTMENT PRESENTS “THE CURIOUS SAVAGE”

HOUGHTON, N.Y.The Houghton College drama department presents the classic comedy “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick at Houghton Academy’s Rosemary Tysinger Auditorium.

A recipient of her deceased husband’s estate, Mrs. Savage wants to make the best use of the money, despite her greedy stepchildren’s selfish attempts to get their hands on it. Her stepchildren commit her to a “sanitarium” in the hopes of shocking her to her senses. There she meets a variety of social misfits all needing exactly the kind of help Mrs. Savage can provide. With the help of her new found friends, Mrs. Savage leads her stepchildren on a merry chase.

“The Curious Savage” leaves the audience with a feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems motivated at times only by greed and dishonesty.

Under the direction of Bruce Brenneman, “The Curious Savage” cast includes the following Houghton College students: Cana Roth of Horseheads, N.Y.; Jason Fisher of Houghton, N.Y.; Casey Bellafaire of Newfane, N.Y.; Eric Stevenson of Houghton, N.Y.; Kristen Speiser of Shirley, N.Y.; Jared Wright of Wilmington, Mass.; Drew Burke of Lewiston, N.Y.; Natasha Perry of Liverpool, N.Y.; Kathryn Drohan of Ellington, Conn.; Lindsay Hansen of Staten Island, N.Y.; and Nathan McLachlan of Walton, N.Y.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21. There is also a Saturday matinee at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by calling 585.567.9461.
