Derek Webb in Concert at Houghton College

HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Houghton College presents Derek Webb in concert on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. in Wesley Chapel.

Webb, a former member of the band Caedmon’s Call, released “The Ringing Bell” in May. According to a CCM review “This album is a collection that sounds clearly through the noise of the day, beckoning some, and warning others. It injects songs into the cultural bloodstream that will move listeners to reflection and action while moving their feet.”

His 2005 release “Mockingbird,” was a collection of songs that dealt with subjects such as politics, social justice and war. To stimulate greater discussion on these topics, Webb offered “Mockingbird” as a free download from September to December 2006. Over 80,000 copies of the album were downloaded during that time.

“I See Things Upside Down,” Webb’s 2004 release, contrasted true Christian values with those of the world. “It's about wrestling with idols, not just typical materialism found in fame and fortune, but also more subtle trappings like false humility, security, and piety,” said Russ Breimeier in his Christianity Today review.

Following the release of his first solo CD “She Must and Shall Go Free,” Webb embarked on a national tour in which he actually played concerts in the living rooms of his fans. From this tour he released “The House Show” which is not just a collection of songs, but also includes Webb’s musings and candid conversations with his tiny crowds.

Tickets for the Derek Webb concert are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All tickets are general admission. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.itickets.com/events/183785.html.
