Houghton College Featured in 2008 Edition of The Princeton Review Guide: "Best Northeastern Colleges”
HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Houghton College is one of 222 outstanding colleges and universities in the Northeast that The Princeton Review recommends to college applicants in the new 2008 edition of its book, "Best Northeastern Colleges.” In the two-page profile on Houghton College in the book, The Princeton Review describes the school as having “rigorous academics, one of top equestrian programs in the nation, and a close-knit, caring community.”
Says Robert Franek, Princeton Review's V.P., and Publishing, "The schools in this book all have excellent academic programs. We chose them from several hundred Northeastern schools we considered based on institutional data we collect about the schools, our surveys of students attending them, and our visits to schools over the years. We also worked to have a wide representation of colleges in the book by size, selectivity, character and locale. The book includes schools in the District of Columbia and eleven states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The Princeton Review surveyed 62,000 students at the 222 colleges in this edition of the book (about 275 per campus). The 80-question survey asked students to rate their schools in several categories -- from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. Comments from surveyed students pepper the book's narrative profiles of the colleges. Some student comments in the profile on Houghton College are: “completely wired campus where everyone has a laptop computer, a place where different ethnicities and backgrounds blend beautifully, professors are always ready to answer questions and discuss ideas and the student body is a close-knit caring community that goes out of its way to befriend students and make them feel at home.”
The 2008 edition of "Best Northeastern Colleges" is the fourth edition of the book. The Princeton Review (www.PrincetonReview.com) is a New York-based company known for its test preparation, education, and college admission services. It is not affiliated with Princeton University and it is not a magazine.
