Students Produce Film for Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival
HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Five Houghton College students wrote, shot, filmed and edited a three minute digital film in 24 hours for Apple’s 2007 Insomnia Film Festival.
At 9 a.m. on Oct. 13, Apple released the secret elements (special props, dialogue, setting, etc.) that needed to be in the film. The Houghton team of Kerry Brogan, Eric Stevenson, Jimmy Dutton, Andrew Vogan and Wes Dean shot the film until 1 a.m. the next day. Editing happened throughout the filming, with final edits and color corrections done by 6 a.m. The final version of the film was submitted by 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 14.
“The key to participating in this was teamwork,” said Brogan. “Every person on the team had a specific part to play. Additionally, many from the college community helped out by providing access to various locations, meals, equipment use, answering questions and filling in wherever we needed.”
“Performance,” the film produced, is about a young man struggling to be his true self in life while displaying that truth on a stage.
From Friday, Oct. 19 to Thursday, Nov. 8, Apple will post all submitted films online where the public can watch and vote for their favorite film. The top 25 entries with the highest ratings will be screened by industry professionals including Barry Sonnenfeld, James Mangold and Nora Ephron.
