Houghton College Students' Photos Included in Social Justice Book

HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Three photographs by Houghton College senior Katie Doner are featured in the book “Do Justice: A Social Justice Road Map,” published by Culture is Not Optional.

As part of the recent Faith and International Development Conference at Calvin College, students from colleges across the country were encouraged to submit original work for this publication.

Doner submitted some of her photos that she took while spending a semester abroad with Food for the Hungry’s GoED Africa program. Her photos portray images from a water project run by Food for the Hungry in Simada, Ethiopia, a food warehouse (stocked by USAID) in Simada, and a young Ethiopian girl in South Gonder.

Her photos were chosen for inclusion in “Do Justice: A Social Justice Road Map,” which is the first book in a new series that examines social justice and provides an introduction to its many facets. This book is a collection of articles, resources and artwork that explore the connection between Christian faith and social justice.

Doner, from Beaverton, Ontario, Canada, is a double major in intercultural studies and art, with concentrations in development and photography. She was one of 22 students from Houghton College that participated in this conference.
