Houghton College Recognizes Service of Employees

HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Houghton College recently honored the service of 31 employees at the college’s annual Recognition Dinner. Eight of those honored are retiring from full-time service to the college.   

Ten-year service awards were given to Rebecca Crouch (director of conferences), Cindy Lastoria (assistant to the president), Dave Perkins (associate professor of mathematics), David Piper (maintenance), and Trini Rangel (assistant track coach and instructor of physical education).  

Employees recognized for 15 years of service included Sharon Hibbard (Upward Bound program administrator), Susan Hice (director of Student Academic Services and associate professor of education), Mark Hijleh (professor of composition and conducting), Jane Miner (academic department coordinator), and Chris Stewart (professor of philosophy).  

Receiving 20-year awards were Glen Avery (director of instructional technology), Marge Avery (director of academic records), Doug Gaerte (professor and chair of communication), Phyllis Gaerte (director of the Campus Store), Mitch Liddick (maintenance), Tim Nichols (director of career services), and Jim Wolfe (professor of biology).  

Honored for 25 years of service were John VanWicklin (professor of psychology) and Sharleen Holmes (library operations manager).  

Karen Dickerson (word processing coordinator) and Diane Galloway (director of student retention) were recognized for 30 years of service.  

Recognized for 40 years of service was John “Jack” Leax (professor of English).

Retirees included Bruce Brenneman (26 years; assistant professor of English), Kathie Brenneman (28 years; information center director), Sandy Roederer (27 years; academic records administrative assistant), Reda Rozendal (19years; advancement administrative assistant), Bonnie Sylor (30 years; library serials assistant), Connie VanSlyke (23 years; The Greatbatch School of Music secretary), Martha Whiting (18 years; academic departments coordinator), and Bob Whiting (27 years; mechanic).
