Houghton College Names 2008 Student Employee of the Year
HOUGHTON, N.Y. —Houghton College has selected Kate Ambrose, a senior from Lititz, Pa., as its 2008 Student Employee of the Year.

Ambrose was nominated for her outstanding contributions as a student worker in the Office of Student Life, where she has served the past three years. She has also served for three years on the residence life staff, most recently as assistant resident director of Gillette Hall.
“Ambrose is extremely loyal, highly creative and unfailingly reliable. She demonstrates her commitment to the mission of Houghton College and its Christian principles in so many ways,” said Kim Cockle, student life administrative assistant. “She is a true scholar-servant in that she maintains a challenging course load while giving of her time to various functions and organizations.”
On the Houghton College campus, Ambrose has been involved with Koinonia, served on the staff for the college’s literary magazine and the yearbook, tutored through Academic Services, participated on the Spiritual Life Committee, the Deacon’s Committee, the World AIDS Day Committee, and the Senior Class Cabinet. Additionally, she has been an MLK Service Day site leader for the past three years, has served at banquets, served on the worship team at the Belfast United Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Absolut Care Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
“Other formative experiences during my time at Houghton have included working as a nanny for a British family after completing the First Year Honors Program, and passing an entire summer in India my sophomore year and then in Morocco the following year,” said Ambrose.
Ambrose will graduate on May 10 with majors in English and intercultural studies and minors in French and missions. She has recently been hired as an admission counselor for Houghton College. In the future she would like to head overseas to work full-time with children caught in trafficking.
The Student Employee of the Year award is sponsored by the Western New York Association of College Career Centers. Recipients from each of the 20-member institutions of western New York were recently honored at a luncheon in Buffalo.
