Distinguished Scholar to Offer Lecture

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- New Testament scholar and author Ben Witherington III will deliver a lecture entitled “Transfigured:  The Theology of Worship in Revelation” on Monday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Arts Recital Hall.
 
Witherington’s presentation is part of the Summer Intensives program offered by the Department of Religion, Philosophy and Graduate Theological Studies at Houghton College. During the week of June 22-25, Witherington will teach a course on the theme “The Jesus of Film, Fantasy and Faith.” Topics of discussion will include “The Social World of Jesus,” “Jesus as Apocalyptic Seer,” “Jesus as Sage,” and “Will the Real Jesus Stand Up -- the Divine and Human Jesus.”
 
Witherington is the Amos Professor of New Testament for Doctoral Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary and serves on the doctoral faculty at University of St Andrews in Scotland. He has taught at Ashland Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University, Duke Divinity School and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Witherington has written over 30 books, among them The Jesus Quest and The Paul Quest, which were selected as top biblical studies books by Christianity Today. He is a popular lecturer and one of the world’s foremost evangelical scholars.
