Houghton College Amongst Best Liberal Arts Colleges Nationwide
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton College has once again received national recognition for its outstanding Christian liberal arts education with the recent release of college rankings by Forbes, U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review. All three publications ranked Houghton College amongst the best liberal arts colleges nationwide, signifying the strength of its reputation and academic achievements.
According to The Princeton Review, Houghton College is one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast United States, while Forbes ranked Houghton in the top 5% of colleges nationwide and first among western New York colleges listed in their second-annual ranking of America’s Best Colleges, complied by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP). U.S. News & World Report released its list of “America’s Best Colleges”, ranking the best schools within nine defined classifications provided by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and Houghton College was once again ranked among the elite national liberal arts colleges.
Houghton President Shirley Mullen, while appreciative of the national recognition, knows that there is much more to Houghton College than simply rankings. “As a Christian liberal arts college, we know that producing graduates of conviction, compassion and competence—people of substance who can move into all arenas of our society and in all parts of the globe—is absolutely vital. Our distinctive educational approach combines a challenging academic program with Christian commitment and global engagement to ensure that our graduates are spiritually invested, culturally aware, and prepared to impact society—immediately,” she states. President Mullen believes that the rankings reflect the college’s commitment to academic excellence and is therefore pleased to receive the national recognition.
Houghton College, located in western New York, offers more than 40 majors and programs; an innovative Houghton Honors Program provides challenges for selected freshmen, while the Summer Research Institute and senior honors projects help students succeed in graduate school.
