Houghton College ranks in the top 3% of public and private colleges and universities, ranking the best schools based on post-graduation outcomes and from the students' point of view.  2011 is the fourth-annual ranking of America's Best Colleges, compiled by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP).

The Princeton Review

Houghton College is noted as one of the Best Colleges in the Northeast by The Princeton Review.

"We consider these colleges the best in the nation academically," says Robert Franek, author of the book at The Princeton Review. "But the real challenge for applicants and parents is finding the college that's best for them. US News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" Guide has consistently ranked Houghton among the elite national liberal arts colleges that are the 'most selective' and 'most solid' institutions in the country. It is noteworthy that Houghton ranks in the "national" category, signifying that its reputation and achievements have eclipsed those of institutions which are listed in only a single region. Houghton is one of only nine member schools of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities included in this category.

The Templeton Guide: A College of Character

The Templeton Foundation, which selects colleges that encourage character development, has named Houghton College to its Honor Roll for Character Building Colleges. Selection criteria for the Honor Roll include the following:

  • A clear and compelling vision and mission that express a commitment to prepare students for lives of personal and civic responsibility
  • The significant involvement and participation of faculty in forming and shaping the ideals and standards of personal and civic responsibility
  • Evidence that a wide variety of programs exists to prepare students for lives of personal and civic responsibility
  • The integration of personal and civic responsibility standards and activities into the core curriculum or areas of academic study External recognition or honors
  • Procedures to assess effectiveness of campus-wide character-development programs

Washington Monthly Ranks Houghton College Among The Top Liberal Arts Colleges Nationwide, Houghton College has been ranked 47th out of 253 liberal arts colleges nationwide in The 2009 Washington Monthly College Guide. Among those top colleges and universities located in New York State, Houghton boasts the fourth place spot, following Barnard College, Vassar College and Colgate University.  Go ›
