Houghton College is pleased to announce the final worship conference of the 2006-07 academic year, presented as part of a Worship Renewal Grant project, funded by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. The Worship Renewal Grants Program is generously supported by Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. Founded in 1937, the Endowment’s major areas of concern are community development, education, and religion.

The project we are carrying out this academic year has as a major focus the creation of a community hymnal supplement. To aid us in the preparation of this resource Nancy Faus-Mullen, Professor Emerita and Adjunct Professor at Bethany Theological Seminary in Indiana, will be on campus March 9-10. Dr. Faus-Mullen is Past President of the Hymn Society of the U.S. and Canada, and served as chair of the hymnal project that resulted in the highly successful 1992 hymnal of the Mennonite Church.

Dr. Faus-Mullen is a gifted leader and teacher of congregational song, and the two afternoon conference sessions she will offer will be focused on topics related to encouraging the song of the people. She will lead us in learning “Five new songs every congregation should know”, and will both teach and model helpful methods for encouraging congregations to expand their song repertoire for worship. This conference will be useful for pastors, worship leaders, choir directors, church organists/pianists, members of worship committees, and anyone else who loves congregational song.
