Service Opportunities

From being a Big Brother to a child or visiting a shut-in, ministry can happen in a variety of ways. At Houghton, opportunities to touch lives are endless, whether it be to minister locally or to travel internationally.

Allegany County Outreach

Purpose:  To provide opportunity for the Houghton College students to establish relationships with and minister to Allegany County families and their children.

 

Evangelicals for Social Action  

Evangelicals for Social Action is a community which seeks to embody Biblical images of social and environmental responsibility in the context of the broken world in which we live. By providing a forum to discuss social concerns coupled with tangible opportunities to serve students are attempting to live out the Kingdom of God ethic. Global Christian Fellowship

Purpose: Students mobilizing scholars for global service here and now.

Habitat for Humanity

Purpose: To serve others by building houses.

 

 

Helping Houghton Seniors (H2S)

Location: Campus Center Lounge

Purpose: To bridge the gap between Houghton College students and the Houghton elderly by building relationships and serving, following the example of Christ in faithfulness and compassion, to God's glory as exemplified in Colossians 3:17.

 

Impressions Mime Team

Location: Gallery area in the basement of the Chapel 

Purpose: The Impressions Mime Team seeks to honor God through the use of pantomime as a form of worship for the team members and those who we minister to, as well as through service to the community and other groups. 

 

Jesters for Jesus (Houghton College Clown Ministry)

Meeting: Tuesday, 7:00-8:00pm

Place:  AB 327

Purpose:  To minister God’s Word through skits and songs to various churches, hospitals, nursing homes, and other venues.

Salvation Army Student Fellowship

Meeting Time & Place:       Wednesdays, 5pm, Campus Center
What you do:                     The Salvation Army Student Fellowship provides an atmosphere for students regardless of denominational background to be spiritually and socially engaged and encouraged through community service and Christian fellowship both on and off campus. It seeks to provide students with an opportunity to grow in the Word with each other, have a time of relaxation from the daily pressures of student life, and offer a home church for students while at Houghton.
 

 

SIM

is a gospel choir committed to expressing its Christian heritage through fellowship and celebrating the richness of African-American culture through gospel music.

Purpose: We will proclaim the Gospel to high school and junior high students in the Southern Tier of Western New York.  This will be done though Young Life, a completely relational ministry towards high school students, as well as through Wyld Life, a relational ministry towards junior high students.

 

Youth for Christ

Purpose: The vision of YFC is to provide a program of evangelism with the intent to bring the spiritual salvation of Jesus Christ to the youth of the Southern Tier area.
