Dr. Wilfred McClay

Dr. Wilfred M. McClay is an American
historian, a noted
conservative public intellectual, and SunTrust Bank Chair of
Excellence in Humanities at the
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
McClay graduated from St. John’s College and the Johns Hopkins University, where he received a Ph.D. in history in 1987.
He has taught at Georgetown University, Tulane University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Dallas, before moving to the University of Tennessee in 1999. He is a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C.; and a member of the Society of Scholars at the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions of Princeton University. He was appointed in 2002 to the National Council on the Humanities, the advisory board for the National Endowment for the Humanities. He serves on the editorial/advisory boards of The Wilson Quarterly, First Things, Society, Historically Speaking, The University Bookman, The New Atlantis, and The City.[3]

Dr. Gerhardt has extensive experience in the many arenas of social
ministry. She taught on the faculty of Roberts Wesleyan College’s
Master of Social Work program before coming to NES. Her dissertation
title was: Martin Luther’s Theology of the Cross: Cause or Cure for
Domestic Violence?
Professor Gerhardt holds a Th.D. degree from Boston University School
of Theology in Church History and Social Ethics. Her earned degrees
include: Th.D., Boston University School of Theology, 2000; S.T.M.,
Boston University School of Theology, 1995; M.S.W., Rhode Island College,
1986; M.A., Providence College, 1983; B.A., State University of New York at Geneseo, 1977.

Ken Murphy, Pastor of the Year
Wednesday, April 25
Ken Murphy grew up in a pastor’s family and attended Oral Roberts
University and Asbury Theological Seminary. He is currently the senior
pastor of Cypress Wesleyan Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Cypress Wesleyan is located on the west side of Columbus on a 110 acre
campus with three weekend worship services averaging over 3,700 attendees.
Cypress’ ministries also include Cypress Christian School (K-8), Cypress
Preschool and Cypress Daycare; these additional ministries allow Cypress
to connect with and spread God’s Word to more than 600 children and their
families on a daily basis.
Ken has a passion for the lost and for insightful and relevant Bible teaching.
Known for its creative services, worship, sports and children’s ministries,
Cypress is used as a teaching church for other congregations.
This May, Ken will be celebrating twenty years of marriage to his wife,
Serena. They have three boys: Jackson, Mac and Peyton.
