–
The
Highlanders came out on top in tonight’s first American Mideast Conference game
versus the Roberts Wesleyan Raiders by the score of 2-0. The Highlanders came
out with a victory despite playing without two key Highlander players.
Despite
playing without lead scorer and American Mideast Conference 2005 Player of the
Year Jr. Bethany Kowalczyk (Waterford, PA),
starting goalie Fr. Becky Wakeman
(Easton, PA), the Highlanders came together and played a physical game
leading to the 2-0 victory over American Mideast Conference rival Roberts
Wesleyan College.
In the
8th minute, the Highlanders scored first with a goal by
So. Mandy Lewandowski (North East, PA)
assisted by Jr. Rebecca Smith (Carlisle,
PA). The Highlanders dominated by keeping the attack on the Raiders leading
to another goal by the Highlanders in the 49th minute. The goal
scored by So. Hannah Swift (Perrysburg, N.Y)
was assisted by Jr. Rebecca Smith
(Carlisle, PA) giving Smith two assists on the night. The strong play of
goalie, So. Bethany Studt (Earlville, N.Y.),
led to her registering her 1st shutout of the season playing all 90
minutes and tallying 1 save.
The
Highlanders registered 11 shots on goal while the Raiders were only able to get
1 shot on the net due to the tough defense the Raiders were faced with. The
Highlanders are on the move in the National rankings moving from #7 in the
preseason to presently ranked #5.
The
Highlanders look to improve their National ranking and to better their 5-0-1
record in their next game on Saturday, September 16th at home versus AMC rival
Notre Dame College of Ohio with the kickoff at 2PM.

innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
