Highlanders Finish Road Trip with 5-0 Win Over Geneva

Box Score

Beaver Falls, PA- The Highlanders finished their weekend road double-header against AMC North Division opponent Geneva College Golden Tornado’s with a 5-0 shut-out today.  The Highlanders improve to 8-0-1 for the season with an undefeated 4-0 start to AMC conference play.

The Highlander’s have much to be happy about after this road trip, not only have they solidified their position over the AMC North Division but the trip was then highlighted by the return of NAIA First Team All American Jr. Bethany Kowalczyk (Waterford, PA) from injury this weekend.

The Highlander’s shelled out 31 shots for the game with 21 of those being on goal, keeping the Golden Tornado keeper busy tallying 16 saves for her effort today.

It took the Highlanders thirty minutes before finding their first goal of the game by Rebecca Smith (Carlisle, PA). Hannah Swift (Perrysburg, N.Y) scored the next Highlander goal in the 32nd minute assisted by Mandy Lewandowski (North East, PA) which lead the Highlanders into half time with a 2-0 lead.

Jr. Bethany Kowalczyk (Waterford, PA) scored her 66th career goal in the 54th minute of the game assisted by Rebecca Smith (Carlisle, PA).  Hannah Swift (Perrysburg, N.Y) struck again with her second goal of the game in the 75th minute assisted by Andrea Duryea (Washington, N.J.) for her first assist of the season.

Andrea Duryea (Washington, N.J.) then scored her first goal of the season in the 77th minute making a welcomed comeback from surgery that kept her out of the first seven matches this year.

So. Bethany Studt (Earlville, N.Y.) earned her 3rd shut-out of the season with an impressive performance from the Highlander defense not allowing a single shot on goal today.

The Highlanders next game will be away at 4pm September 26th against Myer’s University in Cleveland, Ohio
