Highlanders Notch a Homecoming Win, 2-1 versus
Milligan
College (TN)
Box Score
Houghton,
N.Y. – Today’s
game was filled with Highlander pride and spirit as the Highlanders notched a
Homecoming victory versus Milligan College of Tennessee, 2-1. Highlanders of
both the present and the past united to celebrate and cheer on the #3 NAIA
nationally ranked Highlanders. The Highlanders were faced with tough
competition from the Lady Buffs.
The first half remained
scoreless until So. Hannah Swift
(Perrysburg, N.Y.) was awarded the opportunity to take a penalty kick as the
last seconds ticked off the clock. So. Hannah
Swift (Perrysburg, N.Y.) lined up to take the penalty kick and
blasted the ball deep into the middle of the net registering her 11th
goal on the season. In the 52nd minute the Highlanders took a 2-0
lead as Jr. Rebecca Smith (Carlisle, PA)
took a pass from Jr. Bethany Kowalczyk
(Waterford, PA) and buried it passed the goalie.
Due to the Highlanders tough
defense the only Lady Buffs goal came in the 64th minute on a direct
kick in which the Lady Buffs forward blasted the ball just out of goalie
So. Bethany Studt (Earlville, N.Y.) arms
reach under the crossbar.
The Highlanders look to
improve their 12-0-1record in their next game on Friday, October 7th at home
versus Virginia Intermont College with the kickoff at 7PM.
