Win Well Worth the Wait, 2-1 over Mt. Vernon Nazarene

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. – A day full of adversity and delays was in the end worth the wait for the Highlanders as they scored an overtime victory over Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, 2-1.  The highlight of the game was the strong play of returning starting goalie Sr. Meghan Radimer (Branchville, NJ), who competed in her first game of the season returning from an injury.  Despite the soggy field conditions, the teams’ tenacious attitudes were evenly matched as they both fought hard.

The Highlanders opened up the scoring in the 7th minute, Sr. Britany Crozier (Souderton, PA) crossed the defense while tipping the ball over to Sr. Krista Fowlkes (Lake Placid, FL) who slid the ball past the Mt. Vernon Nazarene goalkeeper.  The Cougars scored their only goal of the game in the 12th minute to tie the game up, 1-1.  Both teams fought hard trying to find a goal in the remaining time to give one of them an American Mideast Conference victory.

The Highlanders ended the game in the 99th minute, the final minute of the first overtime period, Sr. Krista Fowlkes (Lake Placid, FL) connected with So. Hannah Swift (Perrysburg, NY) who took the pass and fired the shot past the Cougar goalie.

The Highlanders next game is this Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00PM versus AMC North Division opponent Point Park University of Pennsylvania at home on Burke Field.
