Volleyball Wins Bronze Division at Roberts
Wesleyan College Tournament
Rochester, NY-
Rebounding from two losses yesterday, the Highlander women’s
volleyball team came together with two victories today, winning
the Bronze Bracket of the 2007 Roberts Wesleyan College
Tournament.
The Highlanders beat both Fairmont State University (FSU), 3-2 (28-30,
21-30, 30-24, 31-29, 15-12), and Daemen College, 3-1, (30-28,
30-28, 27-30, 34-32) on the way to the Bronze title. Highlander
Coach Nancy Cole was pleased with the resolve of the girls
during both matches: “We got down in both games at one point and
fought our way back to win both times.”
Sophomore Holly Motheral (Paris, Ontario) was selected to the
All-Tournament Team for her consistent play over the weekend,
recording 23 kills against Fairmont and 16 kills and 3 blocks
against Daemen. Freshmen Darby Emerson (Windsor, CO) recorded
back to back double-doubles with 13 kills and 24 digs against
FSU and 12 kills and 21 digs against DC. Senior Stefanie Swanson
(Houghton, NY) repeated her effort from Friday night
with 26 digs against FSU and 40 digs
against Daemen, averaging 10 digs per game.
The Highlanders will return to Roberts Wesleyan
College for the 2007 Red Raider Volleyball
Classic, facing Virginia Intermont on August 31 at 4:00 PM.

Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
