Volleyball Split’s Opening Day at
Red Raider Classic
Rochester, NY- The women’s volleyball team extended its winning
streak to three games defeating Virginia Intermont 3-1, however they
were no match for tournament favorite #8 Azusa Pacific University, going
down 3-0.
The Highlanders looked impressive early against Virginia Intermont
winning the match 3-1 (35-33, 30-16, 29-31, 30-16). After winning a
close first set they quickly capitalized on the second set when So.
Holly Motheral led the way with 17 kills and three blocks for the game.
Cuba-Rushford standout Leah Scott racked up 12 kills and three blocks
and Sr. Stefanie Swanson tallied 36 digs and three aces.
Azusa Pacific was a different story, the NAIA’s 8th ranked team swept
the Highlanders 3-0 (16-30, 14-30,13-30). The high-powered Azusa Pacific
offense, led by NAIA All-American Outside Hitter Jill Baker, quickly
introduced the Highlanders to high-level NAIA volleyball. The
Highlanders were led again by So. Holly Motheral with 11 kills and four
blocks.
The Highlanders move to 3-3 overall for the season and will face Rio
Grande University at 12:00 PM and St. Francis University at 3:00 PM for
the final day of competition at the Red Raider Classic.
