Mueller Lifts Highlanders In Overtime Against the

                                 Golden Eagles

Houghton, NY- Sr. Elizabeth Mueller’s (Lancaster, Pa.) game winning goal finished the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport in overtime, 3-2, giving the Highlanders their first win of the season.

Houghton entered the game with high spirits, starting their first home stand of the season in front of a capacity crowd. This was short-lived as the visitors were the first on the scoreboard in the second minute of play from a rebound goal by Brockport’s Jenn Danker.

The Highlanders regrouped behind Jr. Arryn Prince (Severna Park, Md.) making several defensive stops behind the goal keeper. The Highlanders then fired back with two goals, the first by So. CJ Lang in the 14th minute and the second from Fr. Sarah Buckwalter in the 29th minute, both goals coming off rebounds.

Going into the second half, Houghton held the lead until the last two minutes of the game when Brockport’s Allyson Granish sent the game time into overtime.

The Highlanders wasted little time, taking less than a minute to set up Mueller for an in-the-box scramble goal.

The Golden Eagles led in shots 9-6 and in penalty corners 12-8 for the game, leaving the Highlanders with room for improvement before their next game at home on September 3rd against University of Rochester at 3:30 pm.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
