Field Hockey Falls Short Against U. of R
Houghton,
NY- The women’s field hockey team could not stop a three-goal run by
the University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the second half today as
the Highlanders fell 3-1.
The first half started quietly for both teams as each had only a few
scoring opportunities available. The second half would be a different
story with three U of R goals coming in a twelve-minute span. The first
to strike was Yellowjacket Lara Bucarey who scored the first of her two
goals in the 38th minute of play off a Valerie Lazickas assist. Lazickas
was the next to strike, feeding off a rebound pass from team mate Amanda
Case for an easy put back in the 44th minute of the game. Bucarey
finished the scoring for U of R off a scramble goal, putting the visiting
side ahead 3-0.
The Highlanders solo goal came from a penalty shot by Jr. Arryn Prince
(Severna Park, MD/ pictured above) in the 50th minute of play.
The Highlanders now move to 1-2 overall for the season. The field hockey
team will now go back on the road to face SUNY Cortland on September 7th
at 4:00 PM.
Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
