Cross Country, Third Place at 2007 Oswego State

                                      Invitational

Oswego, N.Y.- Men's and Women's cross country team ran away with third place at the 2007 Oswego State Invitational. The men finished with two top twenty finishers,  Dan Ballard (Syracuse, N.Y.) finishing second and Chad Stauring (Belfast N.Y.) finishing 11th. The women also had two with Rachel Rhodes (Salamanca, N.Y.) finishing in ninth and Kattie Fadden (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in 12th.

The cross country team competed strongly against 13 men's teams and 12 women's teams on a brand new running course at Oswego State.

"Heat was a factor today," Head Coach Bob Smalley stated "everyone was a little slow today because of the weather and it's toll on this new course, it was difficult to find good footing."

The Highlanders will run again in two weeks at home on September 22nd for the 2007 Highlander Cross Country Invitational. The women's race will start at 10:30 am and the Men at 11:15.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
