Highlander Field Hockey Rounds Up Mustang's, 4-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.  The women's field hockey team wasted little time today rounding up NCAA Div. III opponent Morrisville State Mustangs, 4-0. The women improve to 7-9 for the season.

The Highlanders had four players in the scoring column today. Sarah Buckwalter (Lititz, PA/ Lancaster) and Ashley Hoffman (Webster, NY/Webster) each led the way with a goal and an assist this afternoon.

Carissa Lang (Pittsford, NY/ Pittsford) and Jenny Huyett (Stevens, PA/ Garden Spot) also added goals for the Highlanders.

The Highlanders have proven to be tough competition, winning three straight against the Mustangs. Morrisville State is still relatively new to the arena as it enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III.

The Highlanders will return home next in a rematch against Morrisville State on October 26. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
