hockey
team
closed
out
its
regular
season
by
defeating
the
University
of
Scranton
Royals
3-1
Saturday
afternoon
at
Burke
Field.
The
Highlanders
got
two
in
the
first
half
to
take
control
of
the
game.
Sarah
Buckwalter
followed
up
her
hat
trick
yesterday
by
opening
the
scoring
today
about
15
minutes
in.
Ten
minutes
later
it
was
Emily
Leonard
(above)
who
doubled
the
lead
on a
goalmouth
scramble
from
a
penalty
corner.
Amanda
Brenon
got
the
assist.
The
Highlanders
controlled
play
throughout,
but
the
Royals
got
the
first
goal
of
the
second
half
with
just
9:35
left
on a
nice
progression
up
the
right
side
of
the
offense.
Highlander
goalkeeper
Ashley
Farr
made
the
initial
save,
but
Elizabeth
Carugan
gathered
up
the
rebound
and
knocked
it
in
to
cut
the
lead
to
2-1.
Royals
Coach
Colleen
Mahon
called
a
time
out
in
an
effort
to
rally
the
team,
but
it
was
the
Highlanders
who
responded.
Less
than
a
minute
later
Ashley
Hoffman
scored
off
a
corner
on
an
assist
from
Brenon
and
that
was
the
way
the
game
ended,
3-1.
Before
the
game,
the
Highlanders
honored
three
senior
players—Ashley
Pink,
Kathleen
Griego
and
Elizabeth
Mueller—as
they
completed
their
Highlander
careers.
Houghton’s
third
straight
win
closes
their
regular
season
at
9-9,
while
Scranton
drops
to
6-12.
The
Highlanders
will
host
a
post-season
tournament
with
Wells
College
and
St.
Vincent
College
on
Friday
and
Saturday.
