Houghton, N.Y.—The Houghton College field hockey team shut out NCAA Div. III opponent St. Vincent College Bearcats 5-0 in the opening round of the Highlander Post Season Tournament this afternoon.
Houghton dominated the field and stat line today, leading in all offensive categories while the Bearcats could do little to stop the Highlanders.
Arryn Prince struck first for Houghton scooping up a rebound up from Bearcat Goalie Jacqueline Novak in the 23rd minute of play, finishing the play for the go ahead goal 1-0.
Houghton scored their second goal within a minute of the first. Highlander Elizabeth Mueller blasted a hard drive towards the box that deflected off teammate Cala Galioto's stick for an easy score and led into halftime 2-0
The Highlanders picked up the intensity going into the second half , scoring three more goals. The first came from Highlander Ashley Hoffman who found herself at the right place, at the right time, collecting an easy put-back for her 15th goal of the season at the 41st minute mark (3-0). In the next Houghton score, Hoffman connected with teammate Sarah Buckwalter for an easy one-two into the box at the 45th minute mark (4-0). Buckwalter wasn't done yet as she collected her 11th goal of the season by finishing a penalty corner pass from teammate Amanda Brenon in the 61st minute to seal the win.
Houghton move to 10-9 for the season and will face Wells College for their final game of the season at home tomorrow. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and

are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
