Houghton Men Lose to Walsh,
81-59
(North Canton, Ohio)—The Houghton College men’s
basketball team dropped a road game, 81-59, to Walsh
University on Tuesday night.
The game was tied at 27 with three minutes
left in the first half when Walsh went on a 12-4 run
to open a 39-31 halftime lead. “We got some guys in
foul trouble and that run was really the turning
point,” said Highlanders Head Coach Brad Zarges.
Walsh continued its run after halftime,
much of it from transition offense. “We shot the
ball very poorly,” Zarges said. “And that generated
transition offense for them. When we didn’t score,
we didn’t get our defensive wall set up very well.”
Houghton shot just 34 percent from the
field in the second half, including an abysmal one
for eight from three-point range.
Walsh also enjoyed a large edge in
rebounding, 47-34, including 14 on the offensive
end.
Yannick Anzuluni led the Highlanders with
14 points and 10 rebounds. Mada Abdelhamid had 11
points and 10 rebounds. Ben Kopp also had 12 points.
Lamar Skeeter led Walsh with 16 points and
10 rebounds. Eder Araujo had 15 points.
“Ultimately our shooting did us in,”
Zarges said. “We took care of the ball pretty well,
but we just shot it so poorly that it didn’t
matter.”
Houghton’s record is now 2-2 while Walsh
is 4-1. Houghton travels to Canton, N.Y., to play
SUNY Canton on Friday night. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
