Houghton Men Fall
to Worcester, 67-52
(Houghton, N.Y.)—The
Houghton College men’s basketball team couldn’t keep pace in the second
half as Worcester State College pulled away in the last five minutes to
win 67-52 in a game played at the Buffalo State Sports Arena Saturday
evening.
The teams
played the first half even, 28-28; Houghton got nine points apiece from
Yannick Anzuluni and Mada Abdelhamid.
Less than
two minutes into the second half, though, Worcester took the lead and
never gave it up. They pushed the advantage up to seven points, but
couldn’t pull away.
With 4:48
left Houghton pulled within five at 55-50, but the Lancers went on a
12-2 run the rest of the way to put the game away.
Highlanders’ Head Coach Brad Zarges was disappointed with his team’s
effort. “We played poorly; we played tired,” he said. “We didn’t fight
for any possessions or challenge them at all.”
Worcester’s
Ryan Frassica led all scorers with 19. Anzuluni had 16, with 16
rebounds, to pace the Highlanders. Abdelhamid added 14 points and 11
rebounds and Ben Kopp had 13 points.
Houghton’s record drops to 4-3 on the season. Their next
game is Monday, 7:30 p.m., at Mount Vernon (Ohio) Nazarene University.
Worcester is 5-2 and plays Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon.
