Paige Heats Up But
Highlanders Fall to Malone
Houghton,
N.Y.- Freshmen Devin Paige found his scoring touch off the bench
today, but it wasn't enough to carry the Highlanders past American
Mideast North Division opponent Malone College Pioneer's, losing 66-61.
The Highlanders kept
the game close the whole way through but could not find a way to
penetrate the Pioneer's bruising defense. Malone controlled the game in
the second half shooting a demanding 62% from the field.
"It was the little
things today that cost us the game," said Highlander Head Coach Brad
Zarges. "Missed lay-ups; loose balls; offensive rebounds and execution
on offense. If you can't do the little things right on big possessions
then you have a long way to go to win a close ball game. Our guys now
know that lesson..."
The
Devin Paige, a freshmen shooting guard from Upper Marlboro, Maryland got
things going today scoring 16 points shooting 5-10 from the field
including 3-5 from 3 point range, and 3-3 from the free throw strip in
20 minute's of play. Unfortunately his performance was the only bright
spot of the afternoon for the Highlanders.
The Pioneers had four
players in double figures with Tyler Renner leading the way with 12
points and 13 rebounds.
The Highlanders will
be back in action Tuesday January 29 at home against SUNY Fredonia,
tip-off at 7:00 PM. With that loss the Highlanders now stand at 6-11 for
the season and 0-4 in AMC play.
