National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 

Houghton is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.  Houghton is grouped in NAIA Region IX , covering Ohio, western New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. American Mideast Conference

In April 2000, Houghton was accepted into membership in the American Mideast Conference and began league competition in the AMC in 2001-2002.

The AMC, one of the NAIA’s largest and strongest conferences, is made up of colleges from Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and New York. In addition to Houghton, the AMC added four other schools in 2000 - Roberts Wesleyan College, Daemen College, Carlow College (Pa.), and Ursuline College (Ohio) - to bring its total membership to 20 schools. 

Following are the other schools in the conference: Cedarville University, Malone College, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Ohio Dominican University, the University of Rio Grande, Shawnee State University, Tiffin University, Urbana University, Walsh University, Geneva College, Saint Vincent College, Notre Dame College of Ohio, Wilberforce University, Point Park College, and Seton Hill University.
