NELSON NAMED AMC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Kirsten Nelson (Tokyo, Japan / Christian Academy) has been named the American Mideast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her play the week of October 31 to November 6.

 

The 5-foot-10 Nelson averaged 6.25 kills with a .308 attack percentage to lead Houghton to a pair of victories and a berth in this week’s AMC Tournament. She recorded 32 kills in a victory at Carlow after drilling 18 in a win versus Notre Dame (Ohio). Nelson had 21 digs and 19 blocks in the two North Division victories.

 

The two-time AMC North Division Player of the Year currently leads the team in kills (579), attack percentage (.288), and blocks (167). She is second in digs with 326.

 

The Highlanders (17-17 overall; 11-7 AMC North) are seeded fifth in the North Division for the AMC Tournament, November 12-13 at Daemen College.

 

 

 


Houghton, a Christian college of 1,300 students in Western New York, is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the American Mideast Conference.
