ANDY WALTON NAMED CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton College men’s soccer player Andy Walton (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) has been named the American Mideast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his play during the week of October 17-23.

Walton, a senior forward, had four goals and one assist to lead Houghton to a pair of AMC North Division victories. He scored twice in a 6-0 decision at Point Park before coming back with two goals and one assist in a 5-1 win over Geneva.

He leads the team with 11 goals on the year.

The Highlanders, who overcame a slow start to their season, have won six of their last eight games to bring their overall record to 6-10 and their AMC North record to 5-1. They have clinched at least a second-place finish in the AMC North Division. They close the regular season at St. Vincent on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
