HIGHLANDER VOLLEYBALL SIGNS KUVSHINIKOV

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Ashley Kuvshinikov (Edinboro, Pa. / General McLane) has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Houghton College, Highlander coach Nancy Cole announced today.

As a senior outside hitter, Kuvshinikov helped to lead her team to a win in the Erie County Region V championship and an appearance in the District X semifinals.  She also collected her share of awards and recognitions, being named Erie Times News player of the week, team player of the week, and Region V player of the year.  She was also selected to the all Region V first team, the District X second team, and the Pennsylvania coaches’ all-state team.

“Ashley is a great fit with Houghton and our program,” said Coach Cole.  “She is a strong outside hitter who has the ability to play front and back row.  Look for Ashley to get considerable time as a freshman.  With the graduation of one of our starting outside hitters, Ashley will bring much needed depth to that position.  It will be great to have her here in the fall.”

Kuvshinikov is the daughter of Nick and Ludmilla Kuvshinikov.  She anticipates majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
