IRELAND SIGNS WITH MEN’S
BASKETBALL
HOUGHTON,
N.Y. – J. Bryce Ireland
(Panama, N.Y./ Panama
Central School) has
signed a national letter of intent to play
basketball at Houghton College, Highlander coach Brad Zarges
announced today.
Ireland comes to Houghton after a stellar senior season in which
he averaged 12
points and 13 rebounds. Ireland was a cornerstone for Panama,
shooting 54 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond
the arc. While missing five games during the course of his
senior year, he still tallied 183 points, 184 rebounds, 21
blocks, 30 steals, and 25 assists. He also earned “All
Tournament” honors at the Salamanca Tournament and was named a
Fessendeu Laumert DeAngelo Scholar Athlete for 2006. Ireland led
his team in rebounding and shot blocking for the last two years.
“Bryce brings great enthusiasm and strong skills,” said Coach
Zarges. “He has a good touch from inside and can knock down the
perimeter jump shot as well. He will need to make some
adjustments to the physicality of college basketball, but once
he does, he has a bright future. Bryce is serious about his
faith and is a good student. In all ways, he is a great fit.”
Ireland is the son of Jeffrey and Brenda Ireland.

Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
