               VALAITIS SIGNS WITH MEN’S BASKETBALL

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Rimgandas Valaitis (Silute, Lithuania /J.C.C.) has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Houghton College, Highlander coach Brad Zarges announced today.

Valaitis comes to Houghton after spending the last two years at Jamestown Community College under the guidance of Michael Parks who now serves as Houghton College’s Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. During his two years at J.C.C. “Rimgus” averaged 15 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game over two years. He has an outstanding shot, shooting 43 percent from outside the arch, making 152 three’s in two seasons. As a junior he brings some much needed size and inside presence on the glass.

Academically, Valaitis is a standout in the classroom, awarded the J.C.C. “Accounting Student of the Year, Business Administration Major Award,” and the “J.C.C. Board of Trustees Award.”

“Rimgus is a perfect example of what a "student-athlete" should be, a student first and an athlete second,” said Coach Parks. “Academically, Rimgus had a perfect 4.0 G.P.A... Athletically he is a solid rebounder and prolific three point shooter. He also ranked sixth in the nation, DII, in free throw shooting (88.9%). It was my pleasure to coach Rimgus and I'm sure he will be an asset to Houghton College as a student and player.”

“Rimgus is one of the finest shooters around,” said Coach Zarges. “He has an extremely quick release and has great range. Rimgus also is physically tough. He can defend in the post and on the perimeter. As a 4.0 student, he has his priorities in order and will be a terrific addition to our team.”

Valaitis is the son of Algimantas and Lilija Valaitis, He anticipates in majoring in Business Administration.
