                   BROOKS SIGNS WITH MEN’S SOCCER

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Jonathan Brooks (Ottawa, Canada / Redeemer Christian High School) has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at Houghton College, Highlander coach Matt Webb announced today.

Brooks comes to Houghton after captaining Redeemer Christian High School varsity soccer for four years.

Brooks was a promising member of his Ottawa St. Anthony Italia Soccer Club, leading them to an East Region Soccer League Championship with a 64-4 season record. Jonathan also helped his club win the 12th Terracina Cup International Tournament Terracina, Italy. Scoring the winning goal in the final and voted tournament MVP. Other successful club accomplishments include; Runner’s up in the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl, and 2006 Ontario Indoor Cup Provincial Champions.

He looks to make an immediate impact on the field with this upcoming season.

"Jonathan is an excellent addition to our program,” said Coach Webb. “With Jonathan's signing we have continued to build a strong relationship in the Ottawa area (last year we signed Erik Lefebvre who made an immediate impact). Jonathan will provide immediate service as an extremely quick winger with excellent technical ability. His pace and his high work rate will be difficult for opponents to match. Jonathan will also be a great fit for our institution as he is serious about his faith as well as his academic interests. I am very pleased to add another player from the Ottawa area and have high hopes for the impact Jonathan will have in our program."

Jonathan is the son of Judy Brooks.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
