Field Hockey Starts Season with Win
Brockport, N.Y.-
The Houghton Highlander Field Hockey team opened their season with a 5-0 win
over SUNY-Brockport today. With a constant down pour of rain throughout the
match, Coach Wells secured the start her team was looking for.
Sr. Natalie
Wenger (Annville,
PA) opened the
scoring for the Highlanders in the 14th minute. This was followed up
with two goals from Fr. Ashley Hoffman
(Webster, NY) in the 23rd minute and 52nd minute.
Sr. Stacy Garber (Lebanon, PA) added the
forth Highlander goal in the 53rd minute and
Jr. Rebecca Showvaker (Newville, PA) closed
out the scoring in the 61st minute, assisted by
Sr. Stacy Garber (Lebanon, PA).
“We
played very hard and got a very deserving win,” says Coach Wells. “Despite the
poor conditions and rain we hope that we can keep up
Houghton's Sr. Natalie Wenger contesting the ball
games.”

Houghton College
has deep
and
solid
roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our
teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play
and
in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and
unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference
for the Kingdom
on campus, in Allegany County,
in the Northeast and
around
the world.
Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected
by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door
for Houghton to be a leader,
both in the Northeast and
nationally, in character education.
Through hands-on,
innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and
student-athletes
are working together to change the culture of sport and
to change our culture through sport.
