Highlander
Freshman Lead the Way In Loss To Ohio Dominion
University, 3-2
Box Score
Cedarville, Ohio- The Houghton Highlanders lost a tight match to Ohio
Dominican University tonight, 3-2.
The
Highlander got off to a incredible start opening the scoring through
Fr. Jonathon Brooks (Metcalfe, ONT. Canada) in
the 7th minute of the game. Brooks' shot was taken from 25 yards out hitting the
goalie's hands hard, passing through them allowing the Highlanders to take an
early lead.
The
lead was then extended with another goal through the freshman from Canada in the
34th minute of play off a pass from another first year player
Fr. Steve Grudda (Albion, ME) through the left
side with Brooks connecting from about 10 yards out.
The
Highlanders could not hold onto this lead for very long, making two mental
mistakes before the half which allowed Ohio Dominican to level the score with
two penalty kicks in the 39th and 42nd minutes. This shifted the momentum from
the Highlanders to the opposition for the rest of the game.
The
second half started with Ohio Dominican increasing the pressure on the
Highlander defense. Taking 11 second half shots compared to only 2 taken by the
Highlanders. That pressure finally broke through in the 68th minute with a
rebound off the keeper, giving O.D.U. the 3-2 lead and sealing the victory.
"Tonight we learned that we are able to compete and score against any team in
the AMC," says Coach Webb. "We need to keep growing from this, mistakes are part
of the game and the team is learning as they go along."
The
Highlanders record now moves to 0-5-1 for the season, their next game will be
against host school Cedarville University tomorrow at Cedarville, OH.
