Houghton
Win Streak Keeps On Rolling, 4-1 over Notre Dame
Houghton,
N.Y. – The
Highlanders continue to build on their win streak with a 4 -1 victory over
American Mideast Conference rival Notre Dame College of Euclid, OH. The
Highlanders continue to rise in the National polls in their quest for the #1
spot with a near perfect record of 6-0-1 and a conference record of 2-0.
The Falcons were the first to
score in the 5th minute of the game with a by Jessica Mazzaratto.
Despite the Falcons going on the board first, the Highlanders answered back
aggressively by putting their first goal on the board in the 25th
minute by So. Hannah Swift (Perrysburg, N.Y)
assisted by Sr. Bridget Toth (Victor,
NY). The Highlanders scored in the 41st minute of the first half
to go ahead 2-1 over the Falcons with a goal from
Sr. Bridget Toth (Victor, NY) assisted by
Jr. Sarah Whipple (Canandaigua, NY).
At the beginning of the
second half the Falcons came out strong against the Highlanders. However, the
Highlanders reinforced their lead in the 62nd minute with a goal by
Jr. Rebecca Smith (Carlisle, PA)
assisted by So. Hannah Swift (Perrysburg,
N.Y). The last goal closed out the scoring for the Highlanders’ with a 25
yard out blast perfectly placed in the top right hand corner by
Sr. Bridget Toth (Victor, NY) assisted by
Sr. Jenn Switzer (New Milford, NJ).
The Highlanders finished the
game with registering 13 shots on goal while their opponent for the second
consecutive game was only able to get one shot on net due to the tenacious
defense.
The Highlanders look to
improve their National ranking and to better their 6-0-1 record in their next
game on Friday, September 22nd at AMC rival Seton Hill University of
Greensburg, PA with the kickoff at 4PM.
