Highlander win streak snapped by Geneva, 3-2

Box Score

Houghton, N.Y. The Highlanders looked to keep their win streak alive versus American Mideast Conference rival Geneva College of Beaver Falls, PA.  The Highlanders unfortunately came up short despite playing solid defense against the Golden Tornadoes.  The Golden Tornadoes won the match 3-2 with the game sets as follows 30-25, 28-30, 30-27, 21-30, 11-15.

The Highlanders were led defensively by Jr. Stefanie Swanson (Houghton, N.Y) registering 22 digs in the match.  Sr. Robin Frost (Wheaton, IL) contributed in the Highlanders effort with 18 kills while Sr. Elizabeth Gardner (New Castle, PA) led the team with a perfect 49 out of 49 executed sets for the match.

One twist to the match was that there was a sibling rivalry between the Highlanders and Golden Tornadoes.  Highlander Sr. Audrey Seldomridge (Landisville, PA) faced off against her sister Golden Tornado Allison Seldomridge.

The Highlanders look to improve their overall record as they travel to AMC rival Notre Dame College of South Euclid, Ohio next Saturday with the match starting at 1:00PM.

Houghton College has deep and solid roots in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where our teams use their commitment to excellence, both on the field-of-play and in the classroom, as a platform for their strong and unique emphasis on Sports Ministry. Their goal is to make a difference for the Kingdom on campus, in Allegany County, in the Northeast and around the world.  Houghton is one of only 13 institutions who have been hand-selected by the NAIA to serve as "Champions of Character" Program Centers, opening the door for Houghton to be a leader, both in the Northeast and nationally, in character education. Through hands-on, innovative community outreach initiatives, Houghton coaches and student-athletes are working together to change the culture of sport and to change our culture through sport.
