Men's Soccer Capture 1st Win of the Season
Against Cedarville, 2-0
Box Score
Cedarville, OH- The Highlander Men's Soccer Team triumphed at last to
register their first win of the season tonight against A.M.C. South Division
rival Cedarville University 2-0. This win was a long time in the making, and
well deserved.
The
Highlanders gave a full focused 90 min performance and did not disappoint,
bouncing back from a tough loss the night before to Ohio Dominican University,
3-2.
Coach
Webb made two key personnel shifts tonight placing So.
Chris Cruikshank (Forest Hill, MD) in the defensive line where he
anchored the Highlander defense for the entire game. The other major change was
moving So. Brendan McKirchey (Getzville, N.Y.)
to his natural position in the midfield. These two factors paid dividends
for the Highlanders tonight.
Jr. Tyler Haggerty (Warren, N.J.) scored both
Highlander goals tonight, the first coming in the 7th minute of play off a
header from a corner kick by Jr. Josiah Snelgrove
(Coldstream, N.B. Canada). Haggerty's second goal came in the 32nd minute
from a scramble in the box.
The
second half was scoreless leaving the Highlanders a comfortable margin for
victory.
"It was
a hard fought game tonight," Says Coach Webb. "It was a great come-back game for
us and an even better result compared to last night's heartbreaker. Everything
came together, the guys were focused for the full game. We played like a
confident ball club and we have proven to ourselves that we are cable of
winning. It is great feeling getting that first win under our belts, with so
many close games we have had this season already."
Goalie
So. Erik Lefebvre (Ottawa, ON Canada)
registered his first shut out of the season including 3 saves for the match. The
Highlanders held a narrow advantage with shot's on goal, only out shooting
Cedarville University by 3 shots, 17-14. The Highlanders did win the battle with
corners having 7 total to Cedarville's 3.
The
Highlanders record is now 1-5-1 for the season. Their next game will be against
A.M.C. North Division counterpart Point Park University on September 22nd at
home on Burke Field starting at 7:00 pm.
